The information that this ship was scrapped in 1983 or 1984 is completely WRONG (and is an error in worldwide spread maritime litterature as well), she interestingly survived into the era of independant Russia and served as education ship of the Fishing fleet in the early 1990's based in Vladivostok. In her last years her white funnel was painted black. According to the Russian Register of Shipping (RS Class) in Vladivostok she was scrapped in 1993.

Actually the ILITCH survived until 1993, laid-up as educations ship at Vladivostok and scrapped after this year.

This vessel is the former HAL owned CARIBIA, built in 1933 by BLOHM & VOSS/Hamburg. After the end of WWII the vessel was given to the USSR as reparation. New name: ILYICH / dismantled in the 1980's.
