Description:

Stolt Fulmar passes Cadishead, Manchester ship canal. She has just discharged propylene oxide at Partington basin for Shell chemicals, Carrington and is on her way outward. This could be the last regular run to Carrington by the Stolt tankers as the traffic is believed to be finishing. 20/05/07

Nice picture indeed ! It's surprising to see such a ship in this tight canal.
What will happen if a ship is sailing in the opposite direction?

Well the canal isn't particularly busy up near the top end where this is but if there were another ship going the opposite way it would be timed to pass at a wider section of the canal.

Great shot. Looks pretty tight in there. You say there going to stop shipping in the canal?

The canal isn't going to close, just the traffic for Shell chemicals at Carrington is going to end which means these tankers will only visit the lower part of the canal from now on.
