These legs have since been launched and joined to become one hull. It has been named "Aker Spitsbergen" and left Dubai in tow on 15 August 2007 bound for the Aker Kvaerner Stord yard on Stord Island, between Stavanger and Bergen in Norway.

When completed in 2008 she will be the world's biggest rig, capable of operation in ultra-deep water and in harsh North-Atlantic weather.

More details and pictures (graphichs) HERE.

"Spitsbergen" is a township on the Norwegian Svalbard Island in the Northern part of the Norwegian Sea.
