The submarine U9 was built by the Kieler Howaldtswerke and put into service on 11 April 1967. The boat belongs to the submarine classification 205 and thus to the third generation of German U-boats. It weights 466 tons, is 46 m long, 5 m wide and has a draught of 4 m. The nominal submerged depth was 100 m, and it was armed with eight torpedo-guns at the bow. The U9, which is also completely accessible for the visitors of the Technik MUSEUM SPEYER, was transported from Wilhelmshaven to Speyer in a highly spectacular action.
