The J.R.Tolkien is a gaff-topsail schooner of 42 metres, which often sails in the Baltic. This ship was launched originally as the tug Dierkow in 1964. Her new owner Jaap van der Rest acquired the tug in 1994 and converted her into the yacht J.R.Tolkien.

J. R. Tolkien offers up to 90 passengers the opportunity to get a taste of the world of Tall Ship sailing. The saloon offers room for up to 50 people for a sumptuous seated meal, 60 for a buffet, or more for a lively party after an exciting day out. The bar has a beer cooling system, soft-drink machine, and stereo with two CD players.
