Description:

Launched 27 September 1961 at Aberdeen by Hall, Russell &CoLtd., hull no. 894, as *Gosforth* for the Burnett SSCoLtd., Newcastle. 116.74m x 16.92 x 9.45; 5675 gt, 2706 nt; 6-cylinder Sulzer Diesel, 600mm x 1040, 4100-bhp. Later *Thorold* (1972) and *Catherine Desgagnés* (1985). Presently in service for Transport Desgagnés, Inc., Québec, PQ.

Shown 30 June 1978 unloading newsprint at the Chicago *Tribune* dock, downtown Chicago, Illinois, USA, operated by Quebec & Ontario Transportation CoLtd., St. Catharines, Ontario.

Going trough my dad's Seaman Logbook (Certificate of discharge), I see her was on her from July 1974 to October 1974 as 3rd Engineer.

I believe they were removed at Sorel, PQ, after the *Gosforth* enterd the lakes in the spring of 1972. They were removed to make the loading and unloading of newsprint easier, since the Chicago dock had ample equipment for unloading (somewhat visible) and the Thorold plant ample equipment for loading.

Tony , a very interesting photograph of a ship I remember well. I noticed that they have taken the derricks off her that were there when originally built.
