Photo Category: General cargo ships built 1940-1949 (Over 3000gt)
The "Liberty" type vessel SIDERIS is seen discharging phosphate rock at West Wharf 4 berth in Royal Edward Dock, Avonmouth, on 10.10.70. She was soon sold for breaking, arriving at Barcelona 7.5.71.

Launched as GRANVILLE SUART in Los Angeles, she was delivered in 1943 to the British Government as SAMARITAN by the California Shipbuilding Corporation

After War service she was sold to Cunard Line in 1947 and renamed VANDALIA, being sold to the "London Greek" shipowner MARGARONIS in 1954

MARGARONIS was also the owner of vessel ZAK (ex TREBARTHA), a photograph of which can be seen on this website when she was laid up in the River Blackwater in October 1982)

many thanks Phil

I also photographed ZAK - but only in b&w - on that day (we were probably more or less side by side on the same boat at the time!)

so it's great that, through this website, it is possible to see your colour shot which, given the weather conditions, is excellent

I can vouch for the photo of ZAK (ex TREBARTHA) being on shipspotting. It's my photo and I posted it. :-)

But, for easy reference, it can be found here:

many thanks Australis

the photograph in fact looks better on screen than it does in print - the weather was of course very dull at the time - I recall that she had arrived at Avonmouth (in rain) on an ebb tide, taking exceptionally long to sail up the Bristol Channel from Breaksea pilot station

I suggest to search on BLACKWATER to find the photograph of ZAK more easily

best regards

Great picture of a lovely but neglected veteran!
The photo of ZAK/TREBARTHA that you mention is in Shipspotting? because the search engine does not find it
