Description:

Golden oldies just for Anton Heuff. Archive: Neven Jerkovic. Anton (our member) wrote: Re: SARAJEVO & SUMADIJA Thanks, Vedran and Neven, for sharing this picture. I could only guess what an enormous task it has been to give the survivors of World War II their long overdue overhaul, and rebuild the victims which rested on the seabed. Here we see two 1938-built passenger steamers stripped bare. The Sarajevo (front) became Jadrolinija's Sinj and the Šumadija was renamed Kotor. See also hospital ship Bonn for Šumadija's war years. The ship in the background is probably the Istra, am I right? And could anyone identify the shipyard? Regards, Anton

"Sarajevo" was launched 06.11.37, the picture was very probably taken this day (or may be the day before).
The steamer of Dubrovacka Plovidba is the "Petka" of 1896.
Thanks to Giorgio Spazzapan for his help!

Klaus Günther

Well, and if someone knows the date of launching we can date the picture: looking at the flags and the platform in front of the two ships intended presumably for the guests I assume the picture was taken just before launching.

Sorry, scanman, but I assume the picture was taken 1938. Look at the cyrillic written name of "Sarajevo"!

So, this was at the building yard, not during rebuilding after the war. Thanks Klaus Günther for putting the record straight.
