Description:

05/11/2006, return leg of vessel's Maiden Voyage - first call at the Port of Felixstowe, England.

This unremarkable casing down on the bottom plates at the port side of the main engine, hides what is perhaps the biggest innovation in recent years for marine engines - the camshaft-less fuel delivery.
The common-rail pumped delivery pressurises the heated fuel to 1000 Bar, or more.
That equates to a phenomenal 14,500 p.s.i.

They also promise smokeless combustion at all engine speeds, which may occur when the engine is reasonably new(!).

Sulzer sum it up better then I could:-
"Instead of the usual camshaft and its gear drive, fuel injection pumps, exhaust valve actuator pumps, reversing servomotors, and all their related mechanical control gear, they are equipped with a common-rail system for fuel injection and exhaust valve actuation, and full electronic control of engine functions."

Keel laid on 20/01/2006, launched on 18/05/2006, and completed on 31/08/2006, by Odense Staalskibsværft A/S, Lindø, Denmark (203)

You can get a common-rail injection system on a truck so I am sure you can get one for your fishy boat that it not as big but just as efficient as this one.

You wouldn't happen to know what one of these injection pumps would run would ya? The old girl has a larger than average engine room I think I could squeeze one of those in there. I'd be the fastest cod boat on the Atlantic, Har!
