12-10-07 arriving for a three day visit - Two warships from PLAN are visiting Wellington from 12-15th October. The 144 metre Haerbin will berth at Queens Wharf and the 168 metre supply tanker Hongzehu will berth at Aotea Quay. The flotilla is led by Rear Admiral Zhang Xue-zen, Deputy Chief of Staff, North Sea Fleet. She was given a 21 gun salute as she entered port and their brass band played announcing her arrival as well.
The Luhu class represents PLAN's first attempt to build a true "blue water" navy and it was quickly superseded by the bigger and more advanced Luhai as well as Soveremenny class DDGs.
