Photographer:Marc Piché [View profile]Title:ALGONTARIOAdded:Dec 09, 2007
Photo Category: Great Lakes Bulkers
Algoma's Canadian-flag Great Lakes bulkcarrier ALGONTARIO as shown while downbound on the St.Lawrence River off Verchères, Québec, on April 15, 2005.
Like her sisters CEDARGLEN and WINDOC, she was originally a German-owner bulker (Ruhr Ore) which was rebuilt in 1976 as a laker for Hall Corporation as their CARTIERCLIFFE HALL. A severe fire in 1978 necessitated a further rebuilding of her superstructure which set her apart from her two consorts. In 1988, she was renamed WINNIPEG for CSL and then ALGONTARIO in 1994.
