Construction of St. Pauli Landungsbrücken and the terminal building (as you can see them here) started in 1907.
As the pier was badly damaged during WWII it was rebuilt between 1953 and 1955.
The pier (length: 688 m) consists of floating pontoons which are connected to the mainland by 10 flexible bridges.
