Sadly, the proud funnels of Soc. Anon. "Adriatica" di Navigazione have disappeared from the Mediterranean waters. The company, which was created in the 1930's by a government that undertook a massive "reconstruction" of the Italian industry, has lost its ships and its identity in favour of sister company Tirrenia, thanks to a more recent government decision.
About the funnel: the narrow white and red bands are taken from the Venetian colours, which also figure in Adriatica's houseflag. St. Mark's Lion, Venice's coat of arms, is cast in bronze, and it is still shining on this picture.
