The four-masted auxiliary schooner La Merced was built in 1917 then operated by Standard Oil Company. Later she was converted to a cannery. She made annual trips to Alaska under power and sail. In 1971, after remaining idle for many years near Seattle, Washington on Lake Washington, she towed to Anacortes, Washington where she is used as a breakwater.
