VIGILANT II was photographed arriving at Heysham, North Lancashire on 22nd May 1997. As only one tug was ordered, she was unable to swing inside the dock and so, rather than abort the docking, she was berthed starboard side to the quay.

Built by Wartsila at Turku, Finland, in 1970 as NOVOZYBKOV for the USSR, she became VIGILANT II in 1996 and finally arrived at Alang on 7.4.99 to be scrapped.

Agree too. The photos are priceless as many former NOVOs sailed only a short time under new names before going to scrapyards. The Finnish built NOVOs were usual visitors in Finland too in their whole career as Soviets/Russians.

Hi Malcolm

Nice shot and good to see these oldies even though no longer in the pristine condition as her former Russian owners had her in. I took her as Novozybkov in Napier several decades ago and we saw all but one of the class here before the "Pavlograd" multi-purpose types took over the run from downunder to Europe.
