You are quite correct Bob. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southern_Swan

She seems to be getting plenty of work on the Harbour

When she participated in the 1982 Tall Ships at Southampton she was called OUR SVANEN and flew the Canadian flag. I believe she is now call SOUTHERN SWAN.

Bob

Hi all, as the ex-chief engineer for various vessels under Doug Havers, I visited the Our Svanen in Denmark during her refit. Since that time, they enjoyed many a sea mile under Doug and Margies fair hands. She was always known as Svanen in conversation but they had to register her originally as Our Svanen, due to the fact that there was already another Svanen on the sheet. When she got sold to an Australian company, I can just assume that she has been re-registered under another flag and they have no problem with the new name. Swan is a great name for her and she certainly sails like a swan.

Terry

Her homepage is:
http://www.svanen.com.au/

There one can find pictures showing her name boards as OUR SVANEN or SVANEN. Pictures known to me taken at least from May 2005 on show her as SVANEN. I wonder if this is now her registred name.

Regards,
Werner

Hello Werner

The web site I used for the description has information later than the one you found.

See http://www.svanen.com.au/history.php

My wife and I sailed on Anna Kristina in a small fleet that included Our Svanen in 1988. That is the name that was used then. She is a regular and handsome sight in the harbour.

Thanks for your interest

Yours

Clyde

Hello Clyde,

We both are referring to the same web site:
Just go to the Gallery and select the 14th picture with "Running Maintenance". This is the only picture in the gallery where her name is clearly seen as SVANEN. Many other pics show her as OUR SVANEN of course and from others one can assume that it is SVANEN.

I was in Sydney when the fleet arrived in January 1988 and also took some pictures of OUR SVANEN, a day I remeber with great pleasure.

The updated
http://www.amsa.gov.au/Shipping_Registration/List_of_Registered_Ships/Page_41.asp
has listed her as OUR SVANEN.

Her web site uses both versions of her name, not just as her former ex name. The notes about her history end with the year 1990. According to the records I have, she was acquired by Svanen Charters Pty. Ltd., Laurie Kalnin in 1990. In her web site it is Svanen Tallship Charters. The Tallship-fan site has listed her owners as Douglas and Margaret Havers, Svanen Charters Pty. Ltd. (updated April 2005). So it looks like another change of ownership. What makes me curious is that recent pictures of her show her name as SVANEN although with the register she still is OUR SVANEN.

In this picture of January 2006 you can read her name:
http://www.heinzalbers.org/page-sy0006.htm

This picture is of April 2007:

Although the name is not readable with your picture, it shows the short name board.
I try to keep track of a lot more than a thausand sailing vessels in my data base. Hope that some shipspotters can solve the problem about her name, any help is appreciated.

Best regards from Berlin,
Werner

Hello again Werner

The heinzalbers photo shows a familiar sight in Circular Quay.

I am very sorry to say that I cannot add to the information in my reply to your first post. I can see that the variation in presentations is not helpful to the level of research you undertake for your collection.

I hope another Shipspotting member can help more.

Best wishes from Downunder

Clyde

Werner, its me again.

If you start from the link in my first post you can navigate quickly to a page with a Contact Us button in the left hand side menu.

Perhaps you can get a useful answer for your research if you demonstrated your interest in the ship from the other side of the world.

Good luck

Clyde

Werner

By remarkable coincidence I heard on the radio this morning an interview with the owner/operator of Svanen. He always called her Svanen, never Our Svanen. So that may be useful information for you.

He mentioned the high cost of maintenance. There has been a recent major excercise using tradesmen from many parts of the world.
