I didn't use any telephoto lens or use zoom for this view with my camera. this is as close as you can get to the ships from this location. beside I wanted to take stern view pics of john d. leitch as she was leaving the lock. as anyone who has taken pics from this spot know it's not easy to go from one spot to another just like that.

I understand what shelty's saying, and from this vantage point a lens like the one recommended would indeed make for a great shot. that being said, there are many places where one can get a more 'conventionally' proportioned photo of a ship. there are not, however, too many opportunities to get a photo from a dramatic angle like this, especially with a Puffin/Federal Weser - type ship, where the already massive bulbous bow is accentuated. a little variety is much appreciated and i'm glad the photographer took advantage of this unique spot. hopefully there will be many more and ridiculous "security" measures don't get in the way.

Can I please comment on this one whithout hurting you? Have you noticed that the forecastle of the vessel and her bulbous bow occupy 75% of the aera of the photo? At the other end, the supersructure is barely visible. So why not use a medium telephoto lens?
Daniel.

Awesome cant wait to see this one next time im up to the lakes, i love how they hug the wall there, very rarely do you see a ship move intentionally in a solid object.
