Description:
On a cold and overcast Sunday morning in October 1965, Shaw Savill & Albion Coy's Athenic arrives at Port Adelaide's Outer Harbor. Earlier in the year her passenger accommodation and two lifeboats had been removed. This was her first vit to Oz in her new [plainer] guise.
Built: Harland & Wolff, Belfast in 1947.
B/u: Commencing October 1969 at Kaohsiung.

I did two voyages on her in 1961 , visiting Pitcairn Island on our way to New Zealand. Captain Heywood was a stern Master but a legendary seaman. Souveniers are very rare as she carried so few passengers but I do have a tankard.
Minimal facilities included a temporary swimming pool made of wood and canvas on the foredeck. John

Thanks Chris for posting this photo and thanks to modern image editing giving me the chance to have a look at this wonderful, long lost vessel!
(I was eleven months "old" when this photo was taken... :-) )
