Description:
TOLOA as shown while upbound on the Fraser River off Delta BC on August 10, 1971. Built in 1945 as the US-flag R2-class reefer ESPARTA for United Mail S.S. Co, she was sold in 1970 to Dutch-owned Nievelt & Goudriaan who renamed her TOLOA as depicted here. She went to the breakers at Kaohsiung in June 1977.

I agree Gerolf. This US Maritime Commission R2 design produced some very handsome and balanced ships with slim sterns whose propeller guards protuded like those of US Navy destroyers. Built for speed...
