The Russian freighter Lena at Berth No.5, Port Adelaide.
Strengthened for ice, she had been in the Antarctic during the International Geophysical Year 1957/1958, taking supplies and personnel. Lena and other ships [including her sistership Ob] loaded at Australian ports prior to their return to Russia. She is taking on bagged wheat from both rail wagons and local ketches alongside.

Built by "De Schelde" NV at Flushing, Netherlands in 1954. 7,511grt/6,320dwt. Operated by Murmansk Shipping Co. Diesel-electric propulsion with four Sulzer diesel gen-sets providing power to one 7,000 shp electric motoron the prop-shaft.Scrapped in Spain 1983.
