Description:

For many years I had no information about this vessel I photographed at Las Palmas in 1/1971. By luck I found out she was built in Rotterdam as NEPTUNUS in 1896,becoming NEPTUNO in 1931, CARMINA P. in 1945 and CAPITAN MAYORAL in 1950.
Thanks to Werner, there has come up more informations, just follow the links on the comments to this photo.

CAPITAN MAYORAL was owned by the Spanish Army (not Navy)and manned by civilian crew.
Her task were to transport goods (mainly ammunition and explosives)from Spain´s mainland to Canary Islands and North Africa garrisons.
She was scrapped many years ago.

Heja Arne,

the only thing I maybe can help You, is, that Your listing is right and the ship was still trading in the 1970's between the Islas Canarias and Rio d'Ifni, the former spanish colony on the African coast. She played a role transporting spanish supplies and also Franco-soldiers (Mamerto Sanchez)to Africa. See another picture of the ship and some more informations :

Later the ship disappeared - sorry, I have no more informations
Nice Regards from the Danube

Thanks Werner for this information, from the photo on the web-site,I can see that it's the same vessel.Too bad the pages are in Spanish, but if I understand it correct, the vessel was still trading in 1974-74.
Again thanks a lot,Werner.
Best wishes from
Arne.
