Description:

British India passenger liner taken in Royal Albert Dock in London in May 1967. She was completed in 1951 by Barclay Curle in Glasgow for BI's East Africa service. She and her sister to become UGANDA , were built primarily to take staff involved in what was to become the ill fated British Government sponsored Ground Nuts Scheme in Africa.
She originally had a black hull but in the mid- 1950s this was changed to white.
She only had a little over two years of life left when I took this, going to breakers in Italy in July 1969.
Remarkably, her 1930 built predecessor outlived her by one year. She latterly was the emigrant ship CASTEL FELICE.
