I started steamboating on the EJ in 1974. I did many of these transfers off the Joe, Sykes and others. Lots of "up the street time" when we did these transfers. When we went up the lake the trips were a little slow. Most of our trips were on Lake Michigan, but we made our trips to Superior, WI and Duluth, MN. For awhile we also did Thunder Bay, Canada.

I sailed on the E.J. during the 1976 season. Most of our time was spent in Indiana Harbor, taking cargo off the Joe, the Sykes, and various other ships too beamy to make it up the crick to Plant 3, a scant quarter mile away but separated by several narrow railroad bridges.

Nice one. Was the E.J. being used as storage, or did the Joseph L. have a problem that required her to offload?
