Description:

CALEDONIA was completed in 1948 by the Fairfield yard in Glasgow for Anchor Line. She was the third of three passenger/ cargo liners, the other two, CIRCASSIA and CILICIA having been built in 1937/ 38.
CALEDONIA continued until 1965 when she was withdrawn from service and this shot was taken in Glasgow in November 1965 after she completed her last voyage.
She then became a floating hostel in Amsterdam until being towed to Hamburg for scrap in 1970.
CILICIA went much the same way. As JAN BACKX she was a dock workers hostel in Rotterdam until being scrapped as late as 1980. She was renamed CILICIA for her final voyage I believe.

Dear Mr Srahthdee, thank you, thank you for posting this Anchor Line ship in Glasgow.I was in my 4th year at school on the Sou' Side.I loved ships and hayed football and sport.I would cycle down to the docks and draw and paint the ships and characters I saw there.Glasgow and the docks were an exciting buzz. I remember this ship and seeing her often or her sister. Also there was a newer ship.I think she was the Cidonia, for whisky export.Mainly Ballantine's of Dumbarton.
Again thenks for bringing back some of my boyhood.Sunny Jim of Dumfries
