"Oh, no! It's another of those boring East German (all-look-the-same) Warnowwerft things" we used to say. Now, it is looked upon as a classic.
Maybe it's my age but I still think this is a pretty "un-lovely" ship of that era, perhaps an embodiment of what we were led to believe was the bleakness of the Communist regime there.
I photographed ANTON SAEFKOW several times and would probably - eventually - have posted my best one on the site. My shot wasn't as good as this one, though. Well done!
Cheers!

I think based on the Thames you probably did get a lot of Eastern European vessels in and out. I'm not sure anout 'unlovely' but they are certainly functional and very attractive compared to much of the more recent stuff.
To me based in Southampton (and then Whitehaven and then Northampton !!!) we did not get ANY of them and it was only on the rare visits to Liverpool or Avonmouth that I saw either East German or Polish vessels, so for me this was a great catch. Of course I've managed to scrounge loads of pics off my mates who used to frequent either the New Waterway or the Schelde and that has allowed me to put together the slide shows I do on East German and Polish Shipbuilding for various WSS branches.
all the best
Allan
