VICUÑA (IMO 8100076)
The Vicuña tanker, that transported 17,729 tons of metanol, exploded to the 19,45 hours of Monday (15/Nov/2004), when it was in unloading process. Nevertheless, within the ship still they were left 4,000 tons of chemistry, 116 tons of diesel engine and 2,240 of marine fuel. All that material environmentally expanded in a radius of six kilometers in the sea and by an extension of 20 kilometers from the port, reaching protected islands.
After the explosion, the MN Vicuña stayed in flames by almost 24 hours, leaving a great fuel spot in the neighborhood of the bay of Paranaguá.
The causes still are indetermine.
