Hi Allan

First time I had seen her on the Tyne - nice looking ship, a cut above the 'normal' car carriers that we see. It was interesting to see the size difference when she went red on red with the City of Amsterdam!

Hi Steve,

Missed her last visit to the Tyne, but seen the schedule this morning and the 07:32 bus from Hebburn got me there in plenty of time.

The Airbus paintwork on it's hull - I take it that sometime in the past it has transported part of this airliner as it is assembled in Toulouse I believe.

Cheers

Allan.

Hi Allan

Well she is outbound at 15.15 today - quick turnaround, weather looks ok for some shots of her at river level

This from Wikipedia @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ville_de_Bordeaux

The Ville de Bordeaux is a ship carrier designed to transport the elements of the Airbus A380. It was conceived by Deltamarin and built in Nanjing, China using the Jinling shipyard.
The ship, which first sailed in 2004, is operated by Fret (subsidiary company of Louis Dreyfus Armateurs, France) and CETAM, subsidiary of the Norwegian ship-owner Leif Høegh.
The transporter carries the A380 wings from the port of Mostyn in North Wales to Bordeaux, France

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the info re Airbus and 'Ville de Bordeaux'. I find that fascinating.

I once went for an interview at the factory that makes Airbus wings near Chester when it was British Aerospace, as I use to work for the Bae company in Surrey from 81 to 87. They closed the factory in Surrey and I had a choice to transfer to the Chester plant or the plant near Hull. I chose Hull and was there from 87 to 95 :-(

However, my 7 years at Smith Docks in North Shields during the 60s and 70s hold far fonder memories than my time at the Aircraft factories I must say. Hence my interest all things ships.

Cheers

Allan.

Hi Allan

So you were in Smiths - no doubt you will have seen the amount of construction work going on over there!

Do you know about this web camera that covers the former Smiths Yard:http://www.cofton.co.uk/north-shields-cam.php

Hi Steve,

Yes, I'm following the Smiths Dock reconstruction very closely. I am taking a weekly panoramic photo of the site from east of the S. Shields ferry landing to record the progress.

I know of Coftons web camera, which is very useful to view the ships I cannot get to see at the ferry landing. Very useful. :-)

Cheers

Allan.
