Sadly, containerisation spread rapidly and these fine ships never realised their full potential in a declining general cargo ship environment.
She was converted to a containership and renamed ORIENTAL CHAMPION in 1979 and following either a collision or fire in the Persian Gulf in 1985 was broken up at Kaohsiung.

Could not agree with you more. These ships where so incredibly nice, with its loading-gear, heavylift-derricks and all. They where ships often with some kind of nice lines, not like the monsters of today, with their mountains of boxes. Thanx for posting! Best regards ghazten sandefjord Norway |
