Aleksi, been wanting to ask you.... I've seen many of your photos from Piraeus and I was wondering if all those ships lined-up by the stern are laid-up there and waiting for a buyer or a trip to the breakers?

I like your photos by the way

Well, Piraeus is a place where there has been extra amount of laid up ships all over the place, most of them waiting for a buyer. Some ships have been there for 20 years or more, and only then they've been sold for scrap. There used to be around 100 ships laid up in Eleusis Bay near Piraeus only about four years ago, but when the demand for scrap metal increased and the prices went up, lots of them were sold for scrap.

There's also a huge shipyard area in Piraeus, bigger ships are refitted in Perama and somewhat smaller in the Keratsini and Drapetsona area. There are also some yards in Salamina.

Furthermore, many ships come to Piraeus for change of ownership and renaming.

Btw, I like your photos too! :-)
