An old ferry berth in Southampton, used by the short lived Sunward ferries, for their Southampton-Vigo-Lisbon-Gibraltar route, which operated from June to November 1966. Following this, she was used as as a Spare Berth for Townsend Thoresen's seasonal Southampton - Cherbourg route using Free Enterprise II. Photo taken 10th September 2008

Excellent. So this berth was used by Sunward ferries - I've not heard of them before :-( , I will have to do some research, and then only used occasionaly by FE2 as a emergency berth - I assume when the normal berth is out of action. Did FE2 use this berth much then? Is there any remains from the Princess Alexandra Dock berth?

Normandy Ferries used berth 2 in the Princess Alexandra Dock which is now Ocean Village. This ro ro berth at berth 49 was built in 1966 for Sunward ferries shortlived service from Southampton to Vigo, Lisbon and Algerciras and later as an extra back up berth mainly for Townsend Thoresen and there seasonal sailings to Cherbourg with Free Enterprise 11 from 1970 to 1975
