Hello Brian,

thanks for the background to how you obtained this photograph which was taken by Danny Lynch, a South Wales tug skipper who has shared our interest in ship/tug photography since the 1960's.

I understand that Bill Mitchell, who has sadly passed away, had lived at Southampton so I imagine that the excellent photographs taken at that port were his original work?

Many thanks for publishing them on this website so that his work can still be seen and enjoyed and hope to see more of your 30,000 as time permits!

best regards
Malcolm Cranfield

I just spotted your comments. This original slide was given to me by Bill Mitchell and I posted it before the rules changed about having to be the photographer. I have well over thirty thousand slides and I used to work at Ellesmere Port during this period so I may well have seen you at Liverpool, Birkenhead or Eastham.

hello Brian

since discovering this website earlier this year I have found many of the absolutely brilliant photographs that you submitted, I see mainly in 2005.

many of the images are particularly valuable to me as I was actively photographing the same ships but only in b&w

In the case of those located on the Mersey, I was often in attendance at the same place and time, or could not attend due to work commitments

Rare examples where I also took colour were the arrivals at Liverpool of AL MARWA on 26.1.91 and VISHVA MADHURI on 20.6.87, the latter in company with my old friend Gerhard Fiebiger visiting from Kiel/Bad Segeberg, so have we met?

The reason for appending this comment to VRISSI is that the original photographer, Capt Danny Lynch, is surprised to see his shot published without reference to his name. Can you explain please?

best regards
