Description:

Stern view of the Blacky's port side as it sails out of the mouth of the Black River into Lake Erie at Lorain, Ohio on November 14, 2008. This was about all of the sunshine I saw on this fairly warm November day. The Blacky is on its maiden voyage and has just unloaded coke from China at Lorain and is destined for Thunder Bay, Ontario on Lake Superior to load grain for Mexico.

Thanks very much Marie-Anne -- it was a 3:30am wakeup but I really wanted to get this one, a new Canfornav ship on its first voyage.

Thanks Steve - appreciate the comment. Was not able to see it come in; went up to Lorain the next day and took photos of it and a laker docked stern to stern with it on an extremely dark day. Thanks to a local with connectioins to the pilots it was a 3:30am wake up to catch it departing but worth the effort to get a new Canfornav ship. Plus I got a few others in Cleveland that day including the first photos post of a new Navy vessel. It is in or near Thunder Bay so will be coming back your way with a load of grain for Mexico. I saw a report that this is the first of 14 new Canfornav ships but I think the figure is in error, especially with the economic downturn.
