She was one of many medium sized ore carriers built for various owners in the 1950s and 1960s to serve the new terminals round the country bringing ore for the many steelworks working at the time.
CHEVIOT came from Austin and Pickersgill/s yard at Sunderland in 1961 for WA Souter of Newcastle.She is seen here passing the old Harland and Wolff yard in Glasgow on her way up to the General Terminus ore quay in the early 1970s.

Remember them all well includung the watering hole but was never in!!

A fab photo--what a reminder of my days in Souter's, on a BISCO charter.Never in Cheviot, but I was in the sisters Irish Wasa (Sheaf Wear),Longstone and Bamburgh Castle. Glasgow-- no allnight working, very civilised for an ore terminal-- and I'll say nothing of Betty's Bar!! ;-)

Thanks for that.Yes it certainly was good then.The whole area has changed out of all recognition now with the proverbial upmarket housing,retail and leisure developments.I never thought it could happen to the Clyde;then-I never thought it could happen to the Royal Docks and West India Docks!!
