The ship is the ex Matson liner MONTERY of the 1950s, a sister to the MARIPSOA that recently went to scrap in India after serving for many years with MSC.

Other way round! :-) The ship on the picture is the JIN JIANG (ex-MARIPOSA), while the former MONTEREY went to MSC as the...MONTEREY :-) .

The JIN JIANG was finally scrapped as HENG LI in 1996 at Alang.

Wonderful, typically American liners both, splendid ships, pity that they're gone, but they both had a good run!

Your absolutely correct, my apoligies, silly mistake but was almost there!

I was thinking atop of my head, should have checked before I posted.

I can remember seeing her here in Southampton in the late 90s operating for MSC
