This ship (together with her sister) was one of the last ships built by the NDSM yard in Amsterdam.

MSC YOKOHAMA (ex INCOTRANS SPEED) has still a good port State control (Paris MoU) record (eg since 2005 zero deficiencies). Therefore, although having a high age, is not seen as a risk ship. The outside does not always says anything about the inside. But I think that the end is getting closer, as she has to renew her certificates shortly. It is the question if this is still economical feasible for her owner.
Sailed for approx 7 years on both SPEED and SPIRIT (MSC KATRINA) as cadet, 4th, 3rd and 2nd officer. They are/were strong built ships.

Especially now, when you hear of so many ships laid up, even newbuilds than one can just wonder what will happen to these older ships. In an report I read, that MSC might not be in such a bad situation as some companies who have just received many newbuilds before the crisis, because they have many old and paid-off ships, which they could sell for scrap.

Hi cokl

yes,MSC has a better situation in that matter, old ships are usually paid and therefore
cheaper to keep running.
In another comment it was mentioned no negative entries in PSC checks,, that,s the
reason whay these old ships are sailed in areas like Colombia/Panama/Venezuela
because even with bad maintenance usually ships still can keep sailing.
But he is right when he says they are strong ships,,, surely much better constructed then todays paper boxes what they calling container ships, and I sailed some builded 2004 until 2008,,, NEVER again,,, they falling apart while you look on it,,special those chinese scrap what they calling ships

Hello Capt. Ted,

while you mentioned these chinese ships. I have been on my latest freighter trip from Hamburg to Canary islands onboard OPDR Cadiz. A Mawei China built feedership. I didn't like it. Cheap looking interiors, things like drawers falling apart, lot of rattling, lack of quality in comparison to German built ships. Not again I hope to find myself onboard one like this. Rather I'd choose 10 years older Sietas built "Sven" or such ;)

Hi Cokl
Nope,, this vessel is still in full service, but it is only running in those countires,
like Panama, Venezuella, Colombia,,where it is not paid too much attention to
outer appearances. Also when I personally believe that the safety matters are also possibly not ok,,but outer appearance does not mean necessarily all else is also bad. But she is known as at least not in pretty shape, greek owners by the way

Hello Cpt. Ted, thanks for your comment about the route the ship is trading, I wasn't aware of that. Greek owners ? It is not the first time that Greek owners do not really care about certain fields of maintenance, paintjobs etc., I wouldn't dare to say anything about the technical matters as I am not technically knowledgeable :-D
