Description:

BHP bulk carrier(37500 tonnes) aground on Hebe Reef at the entrance to Tamar River And port of Bell Bay. On voyage from Groote Eylandt to Bell Bay with manganese ore she grounded on the night of 10-7-95 while awaiting pilot.Several attempts to refloat her failed.A large oil spill resulted.After six days she was freed, But so badly damaged she was denied entry to port.After some preparation she left under tow and was scuttled east of Flinders Island.

My brother was on one of the tugs that freed this vessel, my cousin was the bosun on the ship.
