Hi Daniel, could you tell me what happened to that poor lady. What is the story behind those very good but so sad pictures!
Thanks to share, a curious shipspotter,
Robert08 :-)

Sure.

This vessel was trading between Gibraltar and Tangiers as the ESTRELLA DEL MAR (later jsut ESTRELLA). She was laid up in 1999 and sold to a wealthy american who wanted to convert her into a yacht. Work was began but the prject was dropped. She was later to be transformed into an entertainments vessel (casino / disco etc). This also amounted to nothing and the ship was detained in Gib for monies owed. Its crew (mostly romanians working on the conversion) were left without money, food etc aboard and were helped by the local authorities and later repatriated. Meanwhile the vessel fell into more disrepair until finally during last years december storms she started to sink. She was towed to the inner pockets in the commercial mole where she sunk, sitting on the bottom with her bridge, funnel and masts out of the water. It was decided to use the floating crane TAKLIFT 6 already in Gib working on the New Flame & Fedra wrecks to lift out this vessel and this was done on the 17th November. On the 24th the ship was taken to the South Mole in Gibraltar where she was lifted onto the mole. Her masts already removed back on the commercial mole and her insides cleared out. Scrapping has already started on the ship. It was hoped at one time that the ship would be sunk (again) as part of the artificial reef around Gibraltar.

Thanks a lot for the infos Daniel.
That story looks like a roman; some are more lucky but some are not... That is life! Sad story for that poor ship that seems to me to have been a very nice lady.
Thanks again, Robert08 :-)
