Hi Ken wish you the best for 2009 too; thanks for the precision about Basin freezing. I had been 3 times in Halifax but never in winter; it is a very nice city; always enjoy my trip a lot in your area! Halifax, great site for Shipspotters!

Best regards, Robert08 :-)

Bonjour M.Robert: Very windy that day, cold on some, the Basin rarely freezes these years, but I can recall a pretty solid ice cover back many years ago, post WW2.Of course during the war the shipping traffic would have precluded any ice formation.Halifax harbour never freezes and the tide flow keeps the Basin pretty well free of any amount of pan ice.Hope this answers your question. Thanks for your nice comments. All the best for 2009 Robert,Cheers,Ken

Hi M.Watson, that images speaks by itself; it really looks very cold that day; hope that the sailors on that ship have a very good heating system.
Does that bassin become icy or completely freezing in winter?
Great shot, thanks to share, robert08 8-)
