Last saturday (09th) around 1400 hrs just after the argentinan flag Ro/Ro TRANSMODAL, owned by Ferry Lineas, Buenos Aires, left Rio Grande, bound to Montevideo, 25 nm off Rio Grande fire broke at engine room. After crews attenpts to control the fire, the Capt. ordered to abandon the vessel after anchor at position. The crew of 20 were evacuated and save by MOL Panamian container ship MOL STRENGH and three were recued from Strengh to Hospital by Brazilian Navy Helicopters.
From 20 crew, 14 have wounded by burn in ligh and medium level and one remaining in Intensive Treatment Unit, hard wounded
The fire was extinguished same day and vessel hard damaged nto her superestructure will be towed to Buenos aires for permanent repairs, but Brazilian Navy also will open an Inquiry to investigate the reasons of the accident.
She was loadec with 272 containers and doing round trips between Buenos Aires-Rio Grande-Montevieo, in a liner service
