Thanks John,

I had a trip on her a few years ago into Walton Backwaters. Being underway without the thud of an engine is superb! We are indeed fortunate that so many have survived. This years task will be to get some underway (sailing) in the Pin Mill barge match.

regards
Derek

Good to see another shot of the 'Victor' Derek. These may be not the norm for this site but were very much merchant cargo ships of their time, and we do have to be very thankful to the people that invest a lot of time and effort to keep these barges afloat today.
My first taste of one was the 'Dawn' on a school trip in the 70's sailing along the River Blackwater for a few days. She since went into a decline but has now been magnificently restored at Heybridge.
Regards
John J.

Hi Ken,

Yes they make a good sight, better to catch them under sail though.
I will be looking out for them during the PIn Mill barge match

regards
Derek

Hi Bob,

Glad you like the photo, I have some slides somewhere of a barge match in the eighties which I will have to dig out at sometime.

I really love seeing the Thames barges on the move but its getting rarer and rarer these days and even rarer to see them under sail.
I'm hoping to get out with them on the Thames race day in June and get some action under sail.

Hi Derek
It's just like she is disordered in her ropes and canvasses.
Regards
Gerda & Frederik :-)
