When she entered service she was the biggest German icebreaker, used until 1945 on the river Oder and in the Baltic Sea around Stettin.
In March of 1945 she escaped from Stettin with 500 refugees onboard to Copenhagen and finally came to Hamburg.
Here she was used on the river Elbe, the Kiel-Canal and in the Baltic around Kiel.
In 1982 she became a museum ship at Hamburg and in the summer is still used for passenger trips on the river Elbe.
