Description:
Polish Steamship Company's Maltese-registered bulker ORLA (11,848 GT, built 1999, IMO 9154270) is shown while downbound in the Welland Canal below Lock 2 with a cargo of wheat from Duluth, bound for Montreal and eventually, Italy, 1102 hours 18 July 2005.
On July 9, while upbound in the St. Clair River, she ran aground. No damage was reported and after an hour the vessel backed off and proceded upbound under her own power for Duluth.
ORLA appears to be a hard luck ship. While downbound in the Seaway at Cote Ste. Catherine on July 19th, 2005, ORLA went aground in the Seaway and was in a collision with tanker JO SPIRIT, which was upbound for Hamilton at the time. After repairs were completed, she cleared Montreal on August 2.
