From the look of the damage I'd say that the Carol Wales rolled to starboard onto Big Boy. So perhaps it was just unfortunate that the one sunk and took the other one with it.

Hopefully, Buck can shed some light though.

Jason,
I believe you are correct about the Carol Wales rolling to starboard onto Big Boy. I suspect that somebody was pulling scrap from Big Boy and opened her hull to the sea. She then took Carol Wales down with her.

I saw them the day before the sinking and both looked sound. We did have heavy weather (max. sustained winds 26.00 MPH, max. gust 40.28 MPH) that night which didn’t help but I don’t think it would have been enough to take them down in such a sheltered area. If it had been weather related Carol Wales would have taken the weather and gone down first.

I’ll post a shot of Carol Wales sitting on her side on top of Big Boy. (see wrecks & relics)

Thanks also for the warm welcome,

Hi Buck, sad to see those two nice vessels scrapped. But the picture is great and surprising! I enjoy it a lot. And i would like to know as Jason ask, what cause them to sink?

Thanks to share, Robert08 :-(

Hi Buck

This and the other photo of Big Boy are quite interesting.

What caused them to both sink at the same time? A natural event or foul play?

Best Regards

Jason
