Description:

This view is of the bows of three of the former Bethlehem Steel vessels during lay-up at Erie during the 1980s. Photo by Jim Thoreson.

From left to right are Arthur B. Homer, Johnstown, and Sparrows Point. The HOMER and JOHNSTOWN have been scrapped, and Sparrows Point is now BUCKEYE of the Oglebay Norton fleet, and is currently in long term lay-up in Toledo.

Condominiums and a marina now occupy the docks where these vessels are shown tied up in this photo. The dock is at the extreme west end of Presque Isle Bay and ships no longer travel this far west into the bay.
