No longer HMS Mermaid when this shot was taken. KD Hang Tuah in the Malay navy by then. I served aboard her for the last couple of years she was in RN service. John

John - Good shot and do you know her somewhat weird history ? If not, then briefly, she was originally built in the U.K., for the Ghanaian Navy and was going to be the Presidential Yacht, anyway due to a Military Coupe in Accra which eventually spread to the rest of Ghana she was not delivered and was laid up for a couple of years until the R.N., stepped in and bought her. She was very much a one off ship in the Fleet and was reputed to have above average accomodation , including gold plated taps in the Officers "Heads" - (wonder how long they lasted? :-D ) I think she spent quite a lot of time out East , based on Singapore as she was also full air-conditioned . Anyway, keep them coming as your "Freo" photographs bring back same smashing memories .
