Description:

Garden island, Sydney 16/10/1973

The former Bathurst minesweeper Colac is alongside in use as a tank cleaning vessel.

She was the lead ship of the six ship Majestic class Light Fleet Aircraft Carriers, none of which were completed for the Royal Navy.
However Hercules,Magnificent,Majestic,Powerful and Terrible were completed for other Navies, and Leviathan laid up incomplete.

HMAS Melbourne details
Launched by Vickers at Barrow 28/2/1945.
Completed by them for Royal Australian Navy as HMAS Melbourne in 1955.
28/10/1955 commissioned.
1968-1969 Major refit.
30/6/1982 Paid off.
27/4/1985 departed Sydney for breaking up in China.

She was involved in two night time collisions in the 1960's, in which the Destroyers HMAS Voyager(10/2/1964) and USS Frank E.Evans(2/6/1969) were cut in half and sunk while acting as planeguard for Melbourne.
