Description:
The Onassis tanker Al-Malik Saud Al-Awal at Hamburg for assessment after being damaged by an explosion and fir at La Salina on 9 June 1966, which killed eight of her crew (note her funnel lying on deck). She had been built by the Howaldtswerke yard at Hamburg in 1954 and, at 47,000 deadweight tons, was one of the biggest tankers of her day. Eventually her after part was broken up at Hamburg but the forepart was converted into an oil storage barge and towed out to the Gulf.
