Description:
ARISTOTELES, built in Sweden in 1944 as PARRAMATTA and owned by Aristides S.S. Co. from 1963, as recently posted by Marc Piché photographed in 1972 by John Low, had a mysterious end.
Sold in 1975 to the newly created Doric Shipping Co.Inc. (Naftilos Shipping Co Ltd) of Piraeus, who briefly renamed her CARMEN VITA before reverting to ARISTOTELES, she was reportedly sold in 1979 to Omega Maritime of Limassol who renamed her GLORIA.L for a voyage from Spain to Iraq, probably with a cargo of cement.
Whilst she was reported to have arrived prior to October 8th at an Iraqi port, where she discharged part of her cargo, she was then scuttled off the coast of Lebanon.
I doubt that she had transited the Suez Canal and suspect that she commenced discharge at a Lebanese port only to find that the cargo had solidified, leading to abandonment and scuttling of the ship.
