John,
Many thanks for the information and the history. As one who spent his whole sea time on tankers in the 60's & 70's I would sea these lovely looking ships but knew little about them so I'm catching up on my education now.
Regards,
Alastair

Hi Alastair,
Blue Star line often used the same name for their ships, in fact this ship is the first of four to wear the name for them.
She was completed by Harland & Wolff at Belfast in March 1935 and had 12 sister ships.
She was sold to Shimabun K.K., Japan in 1967, the year in which she was also broken up.
Her successor was built by Bremer Vulkan in 1967.
regards

Ken, what a great picture of a fine old lady. I have a question regarding her, was this near the end of her working life? My nearest reference book (1967) lists a "New Zealand Star" but has a build date of 1967,11.700 gross tons with a service speed of 21 knots. Did Blue Star do what BP did and pass names down over the generations? I would love to know,
Regards,
Alastair

Hi John,
I guessed you would like that this, couldn't agree more about the Blue Star ships, nice to know that she survived the war.
Thanks for your kind remarks.
Regards Ken

Hello Ken,
I only can confir Jonesy with his opinion. It is so good to see again on of the old Blue Star liners, the top of beautiful shippuilding.

Absolutely magnificent Ken. I can't begin to describe how good it is to see a picture like that. My favourite venue, favourite shipping line of the era and a real oldy, even for the time. I probably saw her myself.... from my pram :-D Thanks for posting.
regards
John J.
