| Razorboy..If you're correct about the Smuggler's Point being formerly under Croyance flag, prior to that she was a research vessel under N.O.A.A. (U.S. National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration) from '70's to about '82. My father's fisheries biologist with NOAA and I happened across it at the Moss Point, Mississippi OMEGA PROTEIN yard under M/V Croyance San Lorenzo. I took pics of it in early '05 and alway wondered what happened to her. Glad to see pics of her now! |

| Thanks for providing that info about the origin of these vessels. I admittedly know nothing about them but was fascinated by them as I had not seen anything like them and they were obviously quite old. I thought they might have originally been military ships. Now we know. I spent some time on Amazon.com and found some books which seemed to deal with fishing and maritime history of Chesapeake Bay and hopefully those will be of some use. Thanks again for your comments. |

These are all converted from U S ARMY "FS' freighters.SHEARWATER was FS-411 blt. @Stockton,Cal. in 1944.....later served in USN.
LANCASTER blt. N O L A in 1944 as FS-209. Don't know orig. # of SMUGGLERS POINT but she is newly converted from foreign flag CROYANCE which was the former Harry Lundberg school ship EARL BULL SHEPHERD. Very interesting ships. |

| Thanks for your comment Tom! It is too bad we do not have a Tom Turner in the Chesapeake Bay area. I am really flying blind with the local vessels. |
